Background

The International Decade for People of African Descent is a critical milestone.  The decade ends in 2024 and the United Nations Summit of the Future (SOTF) in 2024 begins.  The side event will review diaspora futures and their impact on Pan Africanism, past, present, and future.  The result of the meeting, with recommendations, will be presented to the Permanent Forum for People of African Descent.  How effective is the diaspora?  Is Pan-Africanism possible in the 21st Century?  Who is driving the agenda, the international community, Africans, or the Diaspora?
